After a year of celebrations in 2022 for the 20th birthday of the program, Jazz Migration is back to business as usual. Or at least we thought so…
We have never received as many applications as we have over the past year. In fact, more than 100 bands, sponsored by festivals and concert venues, expressed their wish to join Jazz Migration, proof of the fact that our mentorship and booking support program is the answer to a real urge of many musicians.
This year, again, more than 100 programmers, committed to fostering the promotion and support of emerging artists of the jazz and improvised music scene, chose the four laureates of Jazz Migration #9, among 14 finalists. The interest of the music industry in our program is growing steadily.
For the very first time, we are supporting four bands – Adèle Viret Quartet, Inui, Petite Lucette and Prospectus – including female members (41 % of the final selection), as a result ouf our long time commitment.
Today, the four laureates start a two year long process of artistic and professional support that will lead to a tour in 2024. Thanks to Jazz Migration, these artists will receive the assistance of a network of professionals committed to supporting emerging artists.
The year 2023 opens a new cycle for Jazz Migration, as we hope to keep spending the next 20 years looking for new talent in a music scene that’s overflowing with it.
